FUSION HONG KONG

What we do . . .

There are three disciplines students will learn about a
wide range of styles. Ballet, of course, is the foundation for all dance,
but we will focus on a solid grounding in jazz dance — or, dance for
musical theatre — as well as street dance, as exemplified by
performers including Justin Timberlake.

Students will also learn about the great exponents of dance, from
Nureyev and Barishnikov to Fred Astaire, from Martha Graham,
doyenne of contemporary American dance, to Britain's own dance
genius (and Fusion patron) Matthew Bourne.

No dance history lesson would be complete, of course, without a
mention of legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, the man who
created and inspired the dazzling dance sequences in Cabaret
and Chicago.

In drama we take a similar, wide-reaching approach.

You will learn about Shakespeare, naturally, and if you've seen the film version of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio, you know how exciting the Bard can be. But we will also cover more recent playwrights. For example, what does Pinteresque mean? What were the "kitchen-sink" dramas of the late Fifties and Sixties (in which, incidentally, our patron Dame Joan Plowright shot to fame)?

You will learn about great American playwrights, including Arthur Miller, and about "Method" acting pioneered by Stanislavski and still favoured by many of today's Hollywood stars, including Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. We are also keen to look at the art of comedy acting, so beautifully demonstrated by two of our patrons, Jane Leeves,
the British actress who found worldwide success as Daphne in the US sitcom Frasier,
and the inimitable Tracey Ullman.

Finally, while our singing tuition will inevitably concentrate on musical theatre, we are keen to embrace every musical style, from pop, jazz, swing, blues, gospel, country and rock to choral and operatic.

You will leave Fusion with a sophisticated understanding of how today's singers, from Anastacia to Craig David to Robbie Williams, are influenced by the great singers of bygone eras, including Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye. You will explore the music of a range of songwriters, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Andrew Lloyd Webber, from George Gershwin to The Beatles.
